The Idol Hours- more than 30 artists recreate Iconic historical artworks

Its almost time! The Idol Hours opens at London Miles Gallery on November 12th 2010 and will be on display until December 1st 2010. For those of you that do not know, I am the curator of London Miles Gallery- this exhibition is the largest group show I have ever personally organized and am super excited about it as its a wonderful theme and the artists taking part are from a wonderful fresh contemporary art movement Im proud to exhibit in London.

Many for the first time! All the artists have been asked to take inspiration from a piece of art from before WWII and recreate it in their own way. As we take a look back in history, we are not only paying homage to the great master painters that have inspired us, but also shinning the spotlight on a new generation of artists that are truly as talented.

Moniker art fair: Herakut setting up their exhibition space.

Yesturday, I went along to Moniker Art Fair. Had a nice look around and really enjoyed the amazing project spaces they had a few selected artists create. Here is Time lapse video of Herakut setting up their installation as part of the fair. They also painted a wall outside of the fair all afternoon. Its an impressive sight to see these two talented artists in action.

Exclusive time-lapse video of German street art duo Herakut setting up their project space at Moniker Art Fair in London (October 14 - 17 2010).

David Choe paints "the scariest thing ever"

As part of Lazarides Gallery's Hell Half Acre exhibition in Waterloo Tunnel, here is a short video of David Choe's piece of his version of Hell.... Classic Choe Style.

David Choe paints "the scariest thing ever" and explains his own unique vision of hell. The work is part of Lazarides Galleries' 'Hell's Half Acre' show, deep in the labyrinthine tunnels under London's Waterloo Station. The show is open to the public from 12 - 17 October 2010, and is a reinterpretation of Dante's nine circle of hell by a roster or artists including Jonathan Yeo, Conor Harrington, Vhils, Mark Jenkins, Polly Morgan and many more.

The MONIKER International Art Fair introduces to London a welcome alternative to the familiar grind of the art fair season. Breaking from the traditional format, Moniker highlights the work of a generation of artists often overlooked in British mainstream fairs, though widely acclaimed by museums and established art institutions throughout the world. These artists, extensively collected transcend various genres, readily exploring high and low aspects of visual language. Moniker expertly brings together a select roster from some of the world’s leading artists and galleries, combining forces to showcase their progressive and challenging work in the modern art market. Moniker is designed to spotlight this movement within the ever-growing London art scene and its prominence within current international artistic trends in an innovative setting for art fans, collectors and critics alike.

Chris Berens at Roq La Rue this month

No work has quite the effect on me as that of  Dutch artist, Chris Berens.
What gets me is how unfocused his pieces are, it creates a soft,  unnerving, womb-like interior. The lack of focus, rids us of concepts of time and place. Using his unique technique involving ink, plastic and printing paper, Berens' creates unsettling mixture of poignant detail and ethereal, ghostly textures,  allowing  the viewer to be encumbered into a state of  that calm distress which Berens' creatures, humans and animals seem to be  deeply enveloped in. I think the most disturbing feature of his work is how the delicate faces and figures are sometimes distorted and malformed , leaving concepts of age and time ambiguous, because you cannot tell whether the are  maturing or regressing physically. I won't go on anymore but it is breathtaking.

What i've been meaning to say is that the artist has a solo show entitled 'Leewenhaart' at the Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle which opens on the 22nd of October. Chris Berens will be in attendance!

Here is a link to his website, which includes a wonderfully written statement.
Here is a link to a studio visit video conducted by Hi-fructose, its two years old, but Berens' gives fascinating insight into his technique.

Consumed By You- Nouar's upcoming solo show

I am always excited to see which food Nouar will kidnap and  transform into one of her
 sickeningly happy, gleamy eyed-characters.
The artist's upcoming solo show, 'Consumed By You' will open on October 16th at the Copro Gallery in Santa Monica. Alongside exhibiting her own works, Nouar is also curating an exhibition called 'Bon APetite!' also opening at The Copro Gallery on the 16th. Go see it if you can, only Nouar is capable of making gluttony so appealing!
